Purpose of Job The role of System Administrator requires a deep understanding and proficiency across various platforms, including Windows Server, Linux, and MacOS, as well as familiarity with network and cloud-based server systems such as Microsoft 365, iSAMS, Azure AD, D365, and SchoolsBuddy, etc. The System Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of the school’s computer systems, networks, servers, and associated IT infrastructure. They ensure the integrity and security of all school IT systems, providing technical support to staff and students as needed. Additionally, they play a key role in implementing and managing technology initiatives that support the educational mission of the school. Duties and Responsibilities 1. System Maintenance and Administration: • Manage various cloud-based systems used in educational institutions, such as iSAMS, Destiny, SchoolsBuddy, Teams Class, CPOMS, etc. • Proficiently manage Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Azure AD, Intune, Active Directory, SCCM, WSUS, DNS, DHCP, and NTP, MS Defender, etc. for seamless operations. • Maintain virtualized environments using technologies like VMware vSphere or Hyper-V, including virtual machine provisioning and resource optimization. • Utilize a combination of monitoring tools such as Zabbix, Grafana, and SolarWinds to comprehensively monitor system, server, and network health. Promptly detect and resolve incidents, optimize performance, and ensure continuous operation. Implement automated alerts across these platforms for efficient monitoring and proactive response to potential issues. • Ensure the availability, performance, and security of all IT systems. • Configure and oversee NTP services on Linux servers to ensure precise time synchronization across the network. • Enhance data integrity and minimize redundant data maintenance by automating data exchanges between our core information systems leveraging available APIs or other relevant technologies. • Collecting, analyzing, and storing system logs to identify potential issues, monitor security events, and troubleshoot problems. • Manage data protection software solution – Dell Avamar. Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure rapid restoration of IT services in the event of system failures, natural disasters, or other disruptions. • Perform regular backups and implement disaster recovery procedures to safeguard critical data. • Maintain inventory of hardware and software assets, ensuring proper documentation and licensing compliance. • Facilitate single-sign-on (SSO) solutions where possible to enable a seamless user experience across systems. • Use MDM solutions such as JAMF and Mosyle to centrally manage device settings, security, and applications. • Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. 2. Network Infrastructure: • Assist with network infrastructure setup, configuration, and troubleshooting. Configure and maintain Cisco network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and Sangfor IAG. • Deploy Internet access control, bandwidth management, and content filtering to ensure a safe and user-friendly online experience for students, faculty, staff, and guests. • Monitor network performance, connectivity, and traffic to identify issues and implement solutions for optimizing network performance and ensuring service health. • Implement and enforce network security policies, including firewall configurations, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPN access. • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks. • Implement high availability (HA) where feasible to avoid single points of failure and ensure SLA-compliant continuity of service. • Address cybersecurity concerns and implement appropriate measures to safeguard network infrastructure and data. 3. Collaboration and Project Management: • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including academic departments, non-academic departments, and external partners, to support technology integration and innovation. • Participate in IT projects, from planning and requirements gathering to implementation, testing, and evaluation. • Coordinate project timelines, resources, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and budgetary constraints. • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential impact on the school’s IT infrastructure. 4. Technical Support: • Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support to school staff and students for hardware, software, and network-related issues. • Respond promptly to help desk tickets and service requests, resolving problems efficiently and effectively. • Maintain the printing service, register, and deregister users’ cards, and ensure the printing system is properly always functioning, equipment is well maintained and required consumables are sufficiently stocked. • Regularly follow up with users and verify that their issues have been resolved and IT needs are being met. 5. User Training and Development: • Develop and deliver training sessions, workshops, and instructional materials to educate staff and students on IT tools, applications, and security best practices. • Provide ongoing support and guidance to users, addressing questions and concerns to promote effective utilization of technology resources. • Organize technology workshops or seminars to promote innovation and digital literacy among faculty and students. • Train and support junior IT staff members to enhance their technical skills and knowledge. 6. Security and Compliance: • Implement and enforce security policies, procedures, and protocols to safeguard sensitive data and protect against unauthorized access, viruses, malware, and other cyber threats. • Conduct regular security assessments, penetration testing, and audits to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks. • Stay informed about cybersecurity trends and emerging threats, updating security measures accordingly. • Implement and enforce security policies and procedures to safeguard company data and information. • Participate in audits and assessments to verify compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements. 7. IT Asset Management: • Maintain an inventory of hardware, software licenses, and IT assets, ensuring accurate documentation and tracking of assets throughout their lifecycle. • Conduct periodic audits to reconcile inventory records, identify surplus or obsolete equipment, and optimize asset utilization. 8. Any other duties as assigned by the line manager. Requirements 1. Bachelor's degree or above with a minimum of 3 years of experience in IT, preferably within an international or multi-site organization. 2. Proficiency in operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, MacOS), virtualization technologies, network protocols, and cloud-based services. 3. Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V) and enterprise-level backup and disaster recovery solutions. 4. Hands-on experience with network hardware and software from vendors like Cisco, Sanfor Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, or Fortinet. 5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. 6. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA or CCNP, MCSA) are a plus. 7. Experience in managing education systems like iSAMS, and SchoolsBuddy is a plus. 8. Experience in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation is a plus. 9. Familiarity with WeChat for Work (WeCom) is beneficial but not mandatory.
